The use of SiC in composite materials requires a strong bond between SiC particles and matrix material in many applications. To enable a strong bond to the matrix, polymeric coatings of the SiC particles can be used to specifically adjust the surface properties. The type of coating depends on the specific application.
For the interactions between SiC particles and suspension fluid the surface properties are also relevant for the final manufactured component properties in many forming processes. Due to a coating of the SiC particles the miscibility can be significantly improved, e.g. by adapting the hydrophobic or hydrophilic surface properties.
